about

Meredith Walker is a self-taught painter and decorative artist exploring themes of childhood through a playful process and compositions inspired by folk art and vintage textiles. After discovering abstract painting as a form of expressive movement in her early days of motherhood, Meredith’s process has evolved into a practice of indulging her inner child through her study and interpretation of historically female crafts. Meredith’s work is unique in its ability to blend traditional compositions with intuitive design and movement, as each painting is designed directly on the canvas. Her body of work is a catalog of painted tapestries, embroidery and simple illustrations that point to her roots on the coast of South Carolina and celebrate the creative skills she was taught as a child. Meredith’s work is created from a place of honesty, joy, playfulness and acceptance with a hope that it would help its viewers uncover those themes within themselves.

Bio

Meredith currently lives in Columbia, SC with her husband and two young daughters. She received a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of South Carolina in 2013. Meredith began painting in 2019.
